The Whatcom County Health Department is opening overnight shelters in Bellingham and Ferndale in response to severe cold weather warnings.
Following the discovery of nearly 400 dead or sick geese at Wiser Lake, three miles southwest of Lynden off Highway 539, the Whatcom County Health Department is warning residents about a potential bird flu outbreak.
Whatcom County’s annual community Memorial Day parade returned to Bellingham on May 28, with several thousand attendees turning out from as far as the Seattle area.
Some 11 different cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza strains have been reported in Washington state since the beginning of May, and wildlife health officials are quickly responding.
Starbucks employees’ nationwide wave of labor solidarity has reached Bellingham. The drive-thru location at Iowa and King Streets filed its letter of intent to hold an election on whether to unionize on April 15. If successful, they will join dozens of other unionized locations across the country.
