A teenager was hospitalized in critical condition on Nov. 9 in Vancouver, B.C. after contracting the first recorded human case of bird flu in Canada, according to Canadian health officials.
Voters can anticipate seeing four statewide measures on the November 2024 ballot. The initiatives, submitted by a group called Let’s Go Washington, concern the use of natural gas, capital gains tax, the Climate Commitment Act and the state's long-term health care program, WA Cares.
On Oct. 7, the Bellingham City Council held a third and final vote to approve an ordinance dissolving the Immigration Advisory Board. It passed 7-2, with council members Michael Liliquist and Jace Cotton as the only dissenters, following the pattern of the prior two votes.
In February, a new Western Washington University Associated Students Charter was signed for the first time since 2010. The charter was signed by Western President Sabah Randhawa, Associated Students President Keara Ryan and Senate President Gabe Wong, and enabled a change in the AS Constitution, which was approved last spring and entered into effect at the beginning of the school year.
