If you were wondering what the construction in Bellingham’s Costco parking lot is for, it’s a car wash and is estimated to open this September.
A staple of downtown Bellingham for the last 17 years, Everyday Music, a CD, DVD and record store will close its doors to the public sometime in mid-August, according to Rian Zenner, the store’s manager.
Pioneer Park in Ferndale is ready to host another summer of Food Truck Fridays with live events, a social atmosphere and of course, food trucks, all starting on June 3. The event will happen every first Friday from June to September.
Six years ago, when Teri Bryant started working at the Whatcom Homeless Service Center, she said Whatcom County’s system to help homeless families was close to functional zero, but now the story is different. “What [functional zero] means is that your system's resources are adequate to immediately serve every person presenting for services,” Bryant said. “So we would have robust resources for every family that comes in and says they’re homeless.”
Jason McGill has been appointed to the Bellingham-Whatcom County Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence. McGill said he saw the intersections between domestic and sexual violence and homelessness when working with people experiencing homelessness, which is why he wanted to become part of the commission.
Masks are now optional on public transportation as of April 19. This change resulted from U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle of the Florida Middle District’s decision on April 18, which ruled the mask mandate as “unlawful.”
