Students woke the morning of Thursday, Jan. 18 to another canceled school day. For the second day in a row, Western Washington University’s campus is shut down, due to continual snowfall and icy conditions on campus.
Western Washington University women’s soccer won their fifth West Regional Division II Final, outplaying Concordia University Irvine on Thursday, Nov. 17. The 1-0 Viking victory moves Western on to the elite eight to play Colorado School of Mines this Saturday, Nov. 19, at Harrington Field.
Western cross-country men’s and women’s teams are heading into regionals with high hopes after sweeping the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships in Monmouth, Oregon on Saturday, Nov. 5. These first-overall placements for both teams mark their second GNAC sweep in the last three seasons and second in program history. Division II cross-country West Regionals are set for Nov. 19 in Billings, Montana.

Western men’s rowing is back on the water and looking to compete after medaling at the American Collegiate Rowing Association National Championship Regatta in May. The club brought both gold and bronze medals back to Bellingham in the spring. Being the first national placements in club history, it was a major triumph and motivator for the Western men’s crew team. After a summer off, the club hopes their victories last spring will propel their performance forward this season.
At almost 11 p.m. on the first Wednesday school night of October, dozens of Western Washington University students - many of them first-year students - gathered for an impromptu party at the campus sculpture popularly known as the “Stairs To Nowhere.” Away from their parents, first-year students at Western are getting a taste of what adult life is and the liberty that comes with it.
