Allegiant Air will begin offering a new flight path from Bellingham to Anchorage, Alaska beginning in May 2019.
The first flight to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport will be offered on May 22, 2019 and will continue to run twice a week via Airbus 319/320 aircrafts out of Bellingham International Airport, according to Zach Kramer, public relations specialist for Allegiant Air.
“We saw a great deal of demand for summer travel to Anchorage from Bellingham and we’re thrilled to meet that demand with these ultra-low-cost, nonstop flights,” Kramer said.
Allegiant Air, America’s ninth-largest commercial U.S. airline, currently offers more flights from Bellingham than any other carrier, according to Marie Duckworth, airport operations manager at Bellingham International Airport.
After the addition of the Anchorage flight, Allegiant will offer nonstop flights to a total of eight cities out of Bellingham, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego; Oakland, California; Palm Springs, California; and Tucson, Arizona, according to Duckworth.
Duckworth said the new flight path will be beneficial to the Bellingham community, particularly to members of the commercial fishing and tourism industries.
“There is a lot of synergy in the adventure and outdoor tourism industry between the Bellingham area and Anchorage area that would make each city a great destination for residents of the other community,” she said.
Despite the addition of the new flight, Duckworth said customers should not experience any extended wait times at security checkpoints.
The airport will also see an increase in staff hours and revenue from parking and in-airport purchases, benefiting the community, the airline and the airport alike, she said.
