By David Whorpole A motion was introduced and passed that would assist the Western AS Bookstore with purchasing important operating materials at the Associated Students Board meeting on June 29. The Student Enhancement Fund facilitator position was also assigned. Below are the highlights:   AS Bookstore Funding A request was introduced by Peg Godwin, AS Bookstore general manager, that would draw from the bookstore’s AS Reserve fund to support upgrades. Hunter Eider, AS vice president for academic affairs, introduced a motion to pass the bookstore’s funding request. The motion passed with a majority vote. The request sought for $20,938 to pay for five new registers, reusable tote bags, a time clock and an HP LaserJet Pro printer. The AS Bookstore Reserve is funded through the bookstore’s profits. After the $25,000 mark, profits are split 50-50 between the bookstore and the AS Reserve. Godwin also shared the current declining trend in revenue to the bookstore with the board. The losses are consistently in course materials, most likely having to do with the availability of rentals and cheaper alternatives, Godwin said.   Student Enhancement Fund The position of AS Student Enhancement Fund facilitator is vacant during the summer quarter. It manages the Student Enhancement Fund, which gives students access to grants for academic opportunities that boost personal and professional development, according to the AS Personnel Office. Jose Rios-Sanchez, the current AS business director, offered to take over the responsibilities of the fund facilitator until the position is no longer vacant.
