Acorn Project, a band local to Bellingham, was featured on the second day of Downtown Sounds in downtown Bellingham. Their music is a groovy mix of electronic beats with jazz-like rhythms. IMG_4492The band is made up of six musically talented members. There are two guitarists, a vocalist, a drummer and a saxophone player to bring the jazzy vibes. Acorn Project mashes musical essences of Pink Floyd and Daft Punk to create a electronic series of beats, mixed with some vocals. Their epic-long guitar solos seemed to be influenced by The Grateful Dead’s musical style. It was almost impossible not to start dancing along with their dynamic instrumental melodies something that made me think that their music could be enjoyed on a psychedelic night of star gazing or hanging out with friends. Seeing Acorn Project live was a very unique experience that demonstrated a distinctive part of the Bellingham music scene. Their electronic percussion adds an energetic-flare to their catchy musical hooks. Acorn Project obviously knows how to use their funky-orIMG_4541iginal instrumental rhythm. McTuff, a band out of Seattle, opened for Acorn Project on Wednesday. The trio brought to Bellingham a relaxing funk sound mixed with spirited jazz. Downtown Sounds stepped it up this Wednesday by adding a few more entertainment options, like big bubbles for kids near the stage, a tent hosted by TIGI where you can get your hair done and for happy hour food and beverages before the show Bayou on the Bay is right next door! The possibilities are practically endless. Downtown Sounds really knows how to get Bellingham movin’ and groovin’.
