For the third installment of Downtown Sounds 2015, Polecat, a band formed out of Bellingham, brought bluegrass acoustic rhythms to Bay Street.
Polecat the band, not tobe confused with the small animal, headlined on Wednesday and got the crowd moving. The bands performance was highly energetic and got the crowd interacting with their country beats.
With elements o
f bluegrass, country, rock, Celtic, reggae and more, Polecat displays a large variety of genres to create an extremely unique sound.
Jamming on the fiddle is the only woman member of the five-person band. The feature of the fiddle adds to the bluegrass vibe but with a subtlety hardcore rock twist.
The New Triumph, a band out of Seattle, opened for Polecat on Wednesday. Their musical genre ranges from funky soul to Latin jazz and is completely instrumental.
Downtown Sounds really stepped it up this time around by featuring talented dancers during the intermission. There were three different groups of dancers, a couple to start off, a group of boys second and a group of girls that did a choreographed dance routine.
The weather was nice in the low 70s with a light breeze so the audience could enjoy dancing without overheating.
Local food trucks were there as usual, as well as a new cart addition of Bellingham’s fresh juice bar, Electric Beet Juice Co.
The beer garden area has expanded a little wider into the street to accommodate more concert attendees to enjoy local beer from Boundary Bay while enjoying the music.
There was a large crowd drawn to Downtown Sounds on Wednesday, remember there are only three more concerts to go for this summer series, so enjoy it while it’s here!
