Western women's soccer defeats Kutztown University in Final Four

FINAL TIME:

The Western Washington University women's soccer team defeats Kutztown University 3-0 in the Final Four to clinch its first National Championship appearance. Western will take on Grand Valley State University at 1 p.m. PST on Saturday, Dec. 3 for the National Title.

---GOAL Vikings---

88th minute: Jordyn Bartelson makes the score 3-0 as she fires in a point-blank shot off the rebound from Colleen Lindsay's attempt.

Update: 7:40 p.m. PST

78th minute: The Vikings are still generating corners. Western has 18 while Kutztown has yet to earn a corner or a shot in the game. Goalkeeper Ashley Homer is trying to stay warm as the Vikings continue to control the ball in the attacking half.

---GOAL Vikings---

59th minute: Emily Nelson and Gabriela Pelogi team-up for a classy goal. Nelson whips a in a cross that Pelogi volleys into the back of the net with pace. Kutztown goalkeeper Imani Taylor had no chance at stopping that one. Vikings take a 2-0 lead.

Update: 7:07 p.m. PST

Kutztown goalkeeper Imani Taylor denies a Pelogi header with a diving save to her left. Taylor has made several highlight-reel saves and is undoubtedly the best goalkeeper the Vikings have played this season.

---Halftime---

Western takes a 1-0 lead into halftime over Kutztown University. Western has dominated possession and kept the ball on the attacking half of the field, firing 19 shots (nine on goal) and forcing the Golden Bears to concede 10 corners. Kutztown has yet to get a shot off. Western's goal came from the head of senior midfielder Becca Cates in the 25th minute. Liv Larson was credited with the assist on her high-arcing cross.
