The Front's Affordable Fashionista: The White Button Down

One of the best ways I save some of my money is reworking classic pieces. Innovation is one of the best ways to make one outfit, look like five different outfits and to truly get your money’s worth. Since a white button up is timeless, it is essential to learn how to rework it. (Trust me, you will thank me later).

1. One of the easiest ways to elevate your “cool factor” is too add a ribbon. Rather than just adding a scarf, rework the neck accessory by using something a little less unconventional. After I stumbled upon some left over ribbons after a project of mine, I thought I’d take it to my outfits. Simply cut your desired ribbon to an appropriate length to tie around your neck, give it a quick tie and you’re good to go.

   

2. Put a turtleneck underneath. Yes, that’s right, embrace the “cold grandmother look.” Yes, this may look slightly elderly, but if it’s done right, you can actually look quite cute. It’s all about the pants you pair it with, I choose a casual pair of jeans (to give it an edge) and these fun sparkly flats to give my outfit a touch of youth.  Also be sure to make sure the turtleneck isn’t too chunky, a light weight one will give the best effects.

   

3. Add another top on top of it. Yes, a top on top of a top. Can you say tongue twister?! I scored a ton of summer tops at a Zara sale the other weekend, but because it’s a bit too chilly to wear them yet, what better way to break them in then pair it with a crisp white shirt. Another option could be a fun bold sweater vest if none of your summer shirts seem to work.

   

4. Try throwing it under a sleeveless dress. While this is elevating it to a different level, it is a great way to quickly change from work to an event or especially for an interview where you want to show off a little bit of personal style.

   

5. Wear it opened up, under another jacket or coat. Just because it is a button up doesn’t mean it always needs to be buttoned up. I love doing this to achieve an effortless yet put together look. I usually opt for a clean crisp tank or other blouse to keep the look streamlined and easy.
