“Ponyboy can count on his brothers and his friends, but not on much else besides trouble with the ‘Socs,’ a vicious gang of rich kids who get away with everything, including beating up greasers like Ponyboy. At least he knows what to expect — until the night someone takes things too far,” this is the story of "The Outsiders," by S.E. Hinton.
Junior Katie Dilts, said she first read this book as a school assignment in the 7th grade.
“When I’m required to read a book for school, I don't tend to enjoy them because I am being forced to read them. This is one book I thoroughly enjoyed reading, and have read it multiple times since then,” Dilts said.
The book really looks at the different social classes between the socs and the greasers. The greasers being the lower class, and the socs being the upper class kids, Dilts said.
In the book, you follow Ponyboy and his friend Johnny who have run away after a terrible event, Dilts said. She did not want to give away too much about the events leading up to the boys running away.
