With each entry of Get to Know Western, The Western Front will interview students and staff for a new insight on campus life. This week, we interviewed freshman, Sabrina Vlad.
Q: Why did you pick Western?
A: Mostly because of its education program, and I just felt like I could be myself here.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Western?
A: That it’s liberal -- where I’m from, half the things we do here we didn’t do [in high school]. Plus, I went to a private prep school so it’s completely different. It’s nice to be myself, instead of being the outsider.
Q: What has been your favorite class so far?
A: My gender and the media seminar class.
Q: What do you like to do around Bellingham?
A: [My friends and I] just wander around our dorms, wander around campus, go downtown and try out new food that our resident advisers recommend.
Q: What’s your favorite restaurant in Bellingham?
A: Man Pies. We fell in love.
Q: What is your best piece of advice for students?
A: Be open. Make friends. Don’t be shy. You can’t just wait inside for someone to do something with you. You have to go out and do it yourself.
